India :
With voluptuous bodies and a sultry glamor, the models looked like a mirror image of the front row movie stars. Flamboyant dresses held together with crystal straps seemed destined for Mumbai’s cinematic royalty. By the time the designer Manish...

I still think there is a long way to go before Indian models and fashion per se, can truly be considered international. Except a few that can be counted on fingertips, none of the Indian models have features in the ivy leagues of fashion shows so to say, of course there are designers like Tahiliani who have put Indian on the global map, but to carve a niche for ourselves we will have to transcend national notions of right and wrong and cuts and complexions.

India still has a long ladder to climb in terms of its designers being recognized on the global level. A lot of refining is yet to be done before we have world class designers hailing from this part of the world. Yes, there is a lot of hope with a lot of fresh faces approaching the fashion industry with dedication like never before. I personally feel it is still a decade away from making the cut but is surely would.

I was very surprised to hear a survey that was broadcasted on Story Board, a business news segment covering news on India’s business market. The survey stated that India was the third largest fashion conscious country in the world. Third only to Hong Kong #2 and Greece being #1. Providing this information is correct, I was somewhat taken back and pleasantly surprised! An expert on the statistic commented that many people are looking less to seek out luxury brands just simply for the label name, but more for establishing a individualistic style. Carried out by choosing to purchase major luxury brands that have worldwide name recognition but fulfill the desire to establish ones unique style imprint. That personal element is the supposed driving force in buying trends and shopper motivation.
